Filmmakers describe the ‘great honor’ of winning NYC Awards


At a time when Africa faces an unprecedented attack on the preservation of the environment, films like Birth of pride are essential to raise awareness of fragile ecosystems in Africa and elsewhere on the planet.

The film chronicles the extraordinary journey of the lions returning to a reserve in Botswana as they go from a single female and calf to a fully formed majestic hunting pride.

“It is a great honor to be recognized with three awards at the New York Cinematography Awards,” said Dereck Joubert, Founder and CEO of Great Plains Conservation. “We are thrilled to be able to share our passion for filming and our love for wildlife with the world. This film brings international recognition to our country by presenting Botswana internationally and positively contributing to tourism, ”Joubert said.

Dereck and Beverly Joubert are ardent ambassadors of Botswana and, through award-winning photography and cinematography, showcase the beauty of the country. “It is becoming more and more evident that we are so close to the breaking point on all of the environmental issues facing our planet, so this is a great time for the film to be recognized. It is vitally important that this issue is recognized by a global audience, ”said Beverly Joubert, of this most recent victory.

Their company, Wildlife Films, focuses on conservation and has produced more than 40 wildlife films. They received ; eight Emmy Awards, one Peabody, two Wildscreen Panda and one Outstanding Achievement Award at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival.

Birth of pride is set to win more awards as the film catches the attention of filmmakers around the world. The recent production has already received wide recognition at several international film festivals. These include:

  • Winner of Best Director of Photography of the Month, Asian Cinematography Awards, April 2019
  • Winner for Best Editing, Asian Cinematography Awards April 2019

  • Winner for Best Sound, European Cinematography Awards April 2019
  • Winner for Best Editing, European Cinematography Awards April 2019
  • Winner for Best Nature, Environment, Wildlife Film, Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, Kolkata, West Bengal, India 2019
  • Winner of Best Cinematography, Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, Kolkata, West Bengal, India 2019
  • Winner of Best Sound Design, Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, Kolkata, West Bengal, India 2019

Birth of pride, was also nominated in the Wildlife Film category at the NaturVision Film Festival, which will take place July 11-14, 2019 in Ludwigsburg, Germany and screen on Friday July 12 at 6:00 p.m. CET.
